Description

Framed gouache painting on card. Initialled 'HF' and dated 1986. Dimensions (without frame)37 x 49 cms (14.5" x 19"). FORMERLY THE PROPERTY OF RUDOLF NUREYEV. Hans Feibusch was a Jewish artist and his art was selected to be displayed in the notorious Nazi "Degenerate Art" exhibition in 1937. He fled Germany and settled in England. He converted to Christianity and much of his artistic output consists of religious murals in many churches in the UK. He returned to the faith of his fathers on his deathbed, just a few days short of his 100th birthday. This painting, dating from 1986, was produced as a ballet illustration and was in the collection of the great Russian ballet star Rudolf Nureyev.
