Philip Byrne was born in Palestine in 1944 and he was educated in Cyprus and Yorkshire before pursuing a career in Industrial Design.  By the 1990's he had his own successful design agency with a blue chip client list.  He retired early to dedicate himself fulltime to his artwork.   " Drawing is the key to my creativity.  It's my ambition to convey the sensation of physicalilty and feeling.  It's like putting my arms around a body... Portraits and full-figure work don't interest me at all.  It's the beauty of the body that I love.  Heads are too individual.  For me, each body is representative of all mankind."

Philip Byrne's work has been exhibited in London and America and is in private collections worldwide.   Figurative oil paintings on canvas painted directly from images stored in the imagination.   More obviously abstract paintings with no clear connection to the human form.
